NIFT has emerged as the premier Institute of Fashion Design, Management and Technology. NIFT has eight centres at New Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and Raebarelii.The NIFT entrance exam is for admission to NIFT programmes in Fashion Design, Leather Design, Accessory Design, Textile Design, Knitwear Design, Communication Design, Apparel Production and Master Programme in Design Space, Fashion Management and Apparel Production.
At the Graduate Level - 10+2 pass from any recognized Central/ State Board of Secondary Examination or General Certificate Education Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level or any Public School/Board/University recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system or a pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of 5 subjects or a 3 or 4 years diploma in recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education. For admission to bachelor degree in Apparel Production, one has to pass the 10+2 or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry or Math or diploma in Engineering.
At the Postgraduate Level:
For admission to the Master programmes in Design Space, one needs to be a graduate from a recognized university in any design discipline (Fashion/Textiles/ Accessories/ Graphics/ Communication) or B.A. (Fine Arts)/B.Sc (Textiles & Clothing) or B.tech Textile or Design Diploma from NIFT/NID
For admission to Fashion Management Programme of NIFT one needs to have a Graduate or equivalent degree in any discipline recognized by the Association of Indian Universities or diploma in Accessory/Fashion Design/FIT from NIFT only
For admission to the Master degree programme in Apparel Production of NIFT, one needs to be a B.E./B.Tech (Textiles/ Apparel / Mechanical / Industrial / Production / Electronics / Computer Science/Information Technology) or B.F.Tech. (Apparel Production) from NIFT
Examination Details: The entrance exam consists of General Ability Test (GAT), Creative Ability Test (CAT) and Managerial Ability Test (MAT).
General Ability Test (GAT): This test will comprise of various sub-tests such as:
- For Bachelor programme in Design & Master programme in management - Questions on Addition, Multiplication, Division, Fractions, Percentage, Rate of Interest, Work and Task, Ratio and Proportion, Distance, Profit & Loss, Algebra and Geometry, etc. of the level of matriculation.
- For Bachelor programme in - Questions on Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus, Differential Equations, Probability and
- Statistics, and Fundamentals of Computer Applications
For Master programme in Technology - Questions on Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus, Differential Equations, Probability and Statistics, Linear Programming, Fundamentals of Computer , Production Engineering, etc. of the level of graduation.
Communication Ability - This test evaluates the English language ability of the candidates. It includes questions on synonyms, antonyms, singular, plural, one word substitutes, idioms and phrases, correct spellings, etc.
English Comprehension - This is to test one’s ability to comprehend a situation from a given passage.
Analytical Ability - It is designed to test one’s ability to comprehend a situation from a given passage.
Business Test (only for Bachelor programme in Design) - This test evaluates the candidate's knowledge and awareness about the Industry, Designers, knowledge in the field of Art & Culture.
General Knowledge and Current Affairs (for bachelors and masters programmes in technology & management programmes) - This test is designed to test the candidates general knowledge and current affairs.
Creative Ability Test (CAT) (for Bachelor programme in design): This test is administered to judge the skill, power of observation, innovation and design ability of the candidate. An important aspect of the test is the candidate’s usage of colour and .
Managerial Ability Test (MAT) (for bachelors and masters programmes in technology & management programmes): This test judges the managerial effectiveness and interpersonal skills of the candidates. This test comprises of various sub tests like:
- Case Study - It is based on a situation of an industry environment and helps evaluate the candidate's managerial ability.
- Business Domain Test - It is to judge the fundamentals of , apparel industry, import and export sectors, WTO issues related to textiles, apparel brands, etc.
- Logical Ability - It is to evaluate the candidate’s ability to identify the logic or reason involved in a particular problem given and applying the logic in solving the problem.
